Introduction

In order to make the Pages of your website as accessible as possible, it is a good idea to include links to your primary pages in one of the two Menus available within broadcast.radio website.

The Main Menu is located at the top of all Pages within your website and should be considered the primary way  that visitors will navigate your website.

Whilst it is important to have links to all your key Pages here, too many items in your menu will look cluttered and be complex for visitors. There are two methods you can use to limit the amount of items on your Main Menu.

  • Use Sub Menus - broadcast.radio websites allow you to create sub-menu options that will 'drop down' when the user selected that item. For example, you may create separate Pages for National News and Local News but not want both on your Main Menu. You could create a top Main Menu item of News then have the individual Pages for Local and National News under the News option so visitors can pick which they wish to view.
  • The other option is to create 'landing Pages' that then offer links to individual Pages not on the Main Menu. To use the example above, you would just have a Main Menu option of News but when a visitor clicked on it, it would take them to a Custom Page that asked them if they wanted Local News or National News. Depending on what the visitor clicked on, the appropriate Page would be loaded. This is more clicks for the visitor but results in a simpler Main menu.

In addition to the Main Menu, there is also an additional Footer Menu which is displayed at the bottom of each Page in your website. This is traditionally used for more mundane information such as Privacy Statement Pages etc although it can be used for anything you like!

Building you Main Menu

To build or edit your Main Menu, follow these steps:

  1. Login to your broadcast.radio account with a username and password with permission to edit the website.
  2. Click on the Settings option on the left tab.
  3. Expand the Site Layout drop down menu.
  4. Click on Menu Builder.

  5. The current Main Menu is displayed in the main window.
  6. Let's assume we want to add a new Page to our Main Menu. In the previous article we created a new Customer Page called 'What's On Guide'. Let's add that to the Main Menu. Click on the Add button.

  7. You will see a list of all available Pages. Click on the one you want to add.
  8. The new Page will be added to the bottom of the Main Menu list.

  9. The new Page has now been added to the Main Menu. It may take a few seconds for your website to update. Try pressing + on your web browser to force a full reload.

Changing the order of the Main Menu

You can easily change the order of items in the Main Menu by dragging them up or down the list using the 'grab' handles.

Creating sub menus

You can also create 'sub' menus to allow you to place links to Pages under a single item in the Main Menu. Let's imagine we actually wanted the 'Whats On Guide' to be a sub item of News. to do that, simple use the 'grab handles' to drag the page across so that it appears as a child item of 'News'.

Now you will see that on the Main Menu, if a visitor clicks on News, they will also see the What's On Guide as a sub option.

Deleting Main Menu items

If you wish to remove a Page from the Main Menu, use the 'grab handles' to drag the item you wish to delete to the section marked Drop here to delete.

This will delete the Page from the Main Menu but will not delete the page itself!

Building your Footer menu

The Footer menu is built and maintained in the same way but it is accessed with a different option.

  1. Login to your broadcast.radio account with a username and password with permission to edit the website.
  2. Click on the Settings option on the left tab.
  3. Expand the Site Layout drop down menu.
  4. Click on Footer.
  5. If you do not have a Footer Menu on your site, one will be created.

  6. As the Footer menu has only just been created, there will be nothing in it yet!

    mceclip13.png

Once we have added some pages here, they will be displayed in the same way as the Main Menu.
  7. To add a Page to the Footer Menu, click on the Add button.
  8. Select the first Pager you would like to add to the Footer menu.

  9. Repeat this process until all the Pages you want to add have been added.

  10. The Footer Menu will be updated in your website within a few minutes.

As with the Main Menu, you can also reorder the items in the Footer Menu by dragging them up or down using the 'grab handles'. You can also remove them from the Footer Menu by dragging them into the Drop here to delete section.

The Footer Menu does not allow sub menu items so you cannot create sub menus in the same way you can in with the Main Menu.
