Introduction

The broadcast.radio website platform allows you to add and display News that is generated in two different ways:

Local News - News the is manually generated by users within the broadcast.radio portal.
Automated News - News stories provided by a supported news service. These will usually require a separate subscription to access.

The template website comes with a News page pre-built that will display any Local News article you add as well as automated news from a supported source if you have a subscription with that service.

This article will go through the basics of manually adding a news story as well as setting up an automated feed.

You can also use the Lists & Grids feature to do more advanced things such as separate sections (or even pages) for different types of News (Local, Sports, Showbiz etc). This type of advanced configuration is not covered in this article but the fundamental principles are covered in the Lists, Posts & Grids article.

Adding a local news Post

In this article we are assuming you started with the template website which included a News category for Posts.

To add a new Local News post, follow these steps:

Login to your broadcast.radio account.
Click on the Dashboard and then click on News Post.
Select News Article when asked what type of Post to create.
This will create a new Post with the Category set to News.
Add a Title for your News story. This will be displayed in the News Grids as well as at the top of the page when someone clicks on the story.
Add the content for your story by adding Element Blocks such as Paragraph, Image etc. For details on how to build content using Element Blocks see Editing Pages in broadcast.radio (website add-on only)
Add a cover image for your Story. You can upload an image or choose one from the Media Library. This image will be displayed in News Grids.
Add a brief 'headline' summary for your story. This will be displayed in News Grids underneath the image.
When you are happy, click on Publish to publish your story.

Your new News Post will now be added to any Page that includes a News Grid. In the template website that means on the Homepage.

As well as the dedicated News Page.

Clicking on the News Post in either grid will open the full story.

The News Grids can be configured to display X many stories so only the most recent Posts are displayed.

Adding automated posts from Radio News Hub

In addition to adding local News Posts, you can also configure your broadcast.radio website to link with Radio News Hub and automatically download the latest news Posts for display on your website.

In order to activate this service you must:

Be a Radio News Hub subscriber.
Have a unique API key (provided by them) to give access to the news feed.

Assuming you have your API key, follow these steps to add Radio News Hub (RNH) content to your site.

Login to broadcast.radio.
Click on Contents > Pages and select News. This will open the generic News page for editing but this is also where you configure automated news ingest.
To add a new Automated News Gathering service, click on the Add button on the top right.
You will see the Automated News Gathering options window on the right hand side of the window which allows you to select a pre-configured service (RNH or IRN) or to add a 3rd party RSS based feed. In this case we are adding a RNH feed so select Radio News Hub.
You will then be asked to enter the API Key for your RNH account.

Add it exactly as supplied (we recommend pasting it rather than typing it!).
After a short period (can be up to 30 minutes), your broadcast.radio website will start recieving News Stories from RNH. These will be displayed in the News Grids (just like the local ones). The main difference is that if a visitor clicks on a RNH story, it will take them to the RNH website for the full article.
