Replicating Content Between Stations With Different Station ID's Using Station References

Modified on Fri, 31 Oct at 5:30 PM

  • Requires Myriad Playout v6.8 or higher.

In Myriad Playout, all the content that is specific to a Station (Clocks, Rules, Log etc) lives within a specific Station ID. When Myriad Playout is first installed, a new Station is created with Station ID:0.

If you create a second Station, it will have Station ID:1, then Station ID:2 for the third Station etc.

If you only operate a single radio station then you will probably only need the original Station ID:0 although you may add in a training Station in the future.

If however, you run multiple Stations from a single Myriad Playout database (ie multiple Stations that share a common Media Wall) then you will have a different Station ID for each.

For example:

  • Hot Radio - Station ID:0
  • Hot Gold - Station ID:1
  • Hot Dance - Station ID:2
  • Hot Rock - Station ID:3

If you only have a single location then you probably will still never need to know the Station ID's for each Station unless you need to reference them in a Command or Dynamic Layout.

Where Station ID's become very important is when you are running a Hybrid model (on premise / Myriad Cloud) or have multiple sites that need to synchronize content.

In this scenario, you can use the built in Myriad Replication features to replicate Media Items, Schedule data and Log from one site to another.

But what about if the Stations are not created in the correct order at both sites?

Imagine a scenario where you create your four Myriad Playout Stations, but when you create the matching Stations in Myriad Cloud, the order of the last two stations is reversed so now Hot Rock is ID3 and Hot Dance is ID4.

As Myriad Replication is built on replicating data between Stations with the same Station ID, the setup above would result in content from Hot Dance (on premise) being replicated to Hot Rock (Myriad Cloud) and vice versa.

The answer to this is to add a Station Reference to each Station, as the replication will then replicate to the Station with the same Station Reverence, regardless of Station ID.

To set the Station Reference for a Station, go to Settings Menu > Database Settings > Stations Tab.

Click on the Station Details / Features button.

Type in the Station Reference into the Station Reference Field and click on OK to save.

IMPORTANT - Make sure you set the Station Reference EXACTLY the same on all Stations you want to correctly replicate.

Station Replication will now work correctly even when Station ID's don't line up between sites.
