Adding A Custom RSS Feed To SmartInfo

Modified on Mon, 12 May at 11:50 AM

Requires Myriad Playout v6.7.1 or higher.

Myriad Playout v6.7.1 introduces a new Custom RSS Feed Tab feature to the SmartInfo panel to allow you to add a new tab to display information from source that provides a valid RSS feed (XML) file.

In this example, we will add an RSS Feed from the Sky News service to allow presenters to browse the latest headlines and ensure they are up to date with what is happening in the world.

Note: You should keep in mind that the content feed from news providers is protected by international copyright so you cannot use this information 'on air' unless you have an agreement in place with the provider, but it may still be useful for your presenters to have access to news headlines so they can research and create their own relevant content.

Enabling The Custom RSS Tab In SmartInfo

To enable this feature, use the following steps:

  1. Ensure you are Logged Into Myriad with sufficient User Permission to access the Station Settings.
  2. Click on the Station Menu > Station Settings option.

  3. Switch to the Location / SmartInfo Tab.

  4. In the Custom Tab Options section, start by adding a suitable Tab Caption. In this example we will type in 'Sky News'.

  5. Next, select the type of RSS provider using the Provider Drop Down. The options are:

Disabled - The Custom RSS Tab will not be displayed.
RSS Feed - Add a custom RSS Feed with a generic RSS icon on the tab.
RSS News Feed - Add a custom RSS Feed with News icon on the tab.

Both RSS options work in the same way, the only difference being the icon used on the tab. In this example we will select RSS News Feed.

  6. Type or paste in the full URL address of the RSS Feed file you want to use in the Custom RSS Tab.

For reference, the list of Sky News RSS feeds can be found here (at time of writing) -https://news.sky.com/info/rss

  7. Click on OK to save and close the Station Settings window.

  8. The Custom RSS Tab is enabled in settings but you will note that the tab is still not visible in the SmartInfo panel. This is because the list of tabs to display is set when the Station Database is loaded.

  9. To reload the Station Database click on the File Menu  and select the Open Station option.

  10. Select the correct Station from the list and click OK.

  11. The Custom RSS Tab will now be added to the SmartInfo panel to allow you to see the latest from the RSS provider, Sky News in this example.

Please note that images and clickable links are removed from the list as the feed is for quick information purposes only. Presenters should visit their preferred service provider for more information.
