Requires Myriad Playout v6.7.1 or higher.
Whilst the SmartInfo panel in Myriad Playout is compatible with a good number of dedicated weather providers, if your region is not covered by one of the native sources, you can now use an standard RSS feed from a local provider for localised weather content.
Let's say you want to include local weather specifically for Hull but the regional service provided is too wide for your audience. If you can find a local news / weather provider that offers an RSS feed with weather information, you can use this in the SmartInfo panel to display much more localised weather information.
Whilst RSS feeds can be more difficult to find nowadays, the BBC provide a comprehensive weather service and you can access it via RSS feeds with a little ingenuity.
To locate a BBC Weather RSS feed, follow these steps.
- Go to BBC Weather - Home (https://www.bbc.co.uk/)
- Type in the location you want (Hull in this case) - please note you can also type in international locations.
- Make a note of the Location ID Number in the URL on the resulting page, this is location within the BBC weather databse. In the case of Hull, UK, the number is 2645425.
- You can now use either of the following URL's to create your unique weather feed location.
For the three-day forecast, use this URL:
https://weather-broker-cdn.api.bbci.co.uk/en/forecast/rss/3day/[location code]
And for the latest observations, use this one:
https://weather-broker-cdn.api.bbci.co.uk/en/observation/rss/[location code]
In both cases, replace [location code] with the Location ID Number you extracted from the URL.
So for example, the 3 day weather URL for Hull would be:
https://weather-broker-cdn.api.bbci.co.uk/en/forecast/rss/3day/5586438 - Copy your unique URL so you can paste in to Myriad.
Obviously, this process will differ for other service providers and it may require some investigation work to locate a suitable weather RSS feed for your location.
