Modified on Thu, 23 Oct at 4:47 PM

Introduction

This article explains how to configure Myriad Playout 6 to work with the Met Office’s new Weather DataHub service.

Note: This service requires Myriad v6.8.1 or higher.

What’s changed?

Myriad Playout 6 now supports integration with the Met Office’s Weather DataHub – a modern API-based weather data service. Previously you may have used legacy feeds or generic RSS weather sources. The new Weather DataHub replaces the older Met Office weather data that was finally shut down during late summer 2025.

Before you begin

You’ll need the following:

  1. A Myriad Playout 6 installation with SmartInfo or a layout that accepts weather data.

  2. A registered account with the Met Office Weather DataHub. Visit: https://datahub.metoffice.gov.uk/ to register for an account.

  3. Your API credentials (key or token) and details of your subscribed product (order ID, region, parameters). You need to request the API key from the Data Hub site - instructions are available within the Met Office FAQ on how to do this.

  4. The latitude & longitude (or station identifier) for your radio station’s location.

Registering with the Met Office Weather DataHub

Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Weather DataHub home page and click Login / Register. datahub.metoffice.gov.uk

  2. Choose a product plan that suits your usage (free tier or paid plan).

  3. Once subscribed, you’ll obtain your API credentials. The “My Subscriptions” page lists your active orders.

  4. Note the terms & licensing: usage limits, attribution requirements (“Data supplied by the Met Office”), and your permitted use.

Configuring Myriad Playout 6 to use Met Office Weather DataHub

Step-by-step

  1. In Myriad Playout 6, go to Station Menu → Station Settings.

  2. Click on the Location / SmartInfo tab.

  3. Enter your station’s geographic coordinates (latitude & longitude).

  4. In the Weather Provider dropdown list, select “Met Office”.

  5. Enter the API credentials (key/token) provided by the Met Office.

  6. Choose the format you want for temperature and units of measurement.

  7. Save the settings by clicking the OK button.

  8. Any SmartInfo-enabled layout will now fetch and display weather data from the Met Office.

Tips

  • Ensure your station’s coordinates are accurate; many weather APIs render forecasts based on lat/lon.

  • Watch your API usage — if you exceed your plan’s calls or data volume, access may be restricted. datahub.metoffice.gov.uk

  • If you experience missing data or error codes (401, 429) check the FAQs on the Weather DataHub site. datahub.metoffice.gov.uk

  • Update your attribution text/logo if required: “Data supplied by the Met Office.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I still need a generic RSS weather feed?

Q: Is this service free?
A: The Weather DataHub offers free tiers for some products, but depending on your usage you may need a paid plan. from the Met Office datahub.metoffice.gov.uk

Q: Can I use it for commercial broadcast?
A: Yes — but you must comply with the licensing terms (attribution, usage limits) laid out by the Met Office.
