Rodecaster Pro 2 Setup For Myriad 5/6 In Studio

Modified on Tue, 24 Sep at 12:40 PM

In this article, we will run through the best setup options for the Rodecaster Pro 2 when used with Myriad 5/6 in a small studio environment. The same configuration will also work with Myriad 4 if required.

The Roadcaster Pro2 is a versatile and feature packed mixing console designed primarily for Podcasting, but suitable for use in a simple broadcast radio studio.

Rode have some great documentation and videos on their website (RØDECaster Pro II | Integrated Audio Production Studio | RØDE (rode.com)) and there are hundreds of Youtube videos dedicated to configuring and using the console. So we will not cover how to setup the Rodecaster Pro2 (as that is covered elsewhere) but will share our recommend setup for Myriad 5/6.

General Settings

  • Settings > Outputs > Monitor > Auto-mute Monitor Output - this will mute the speakers whenever any microphone channel is 'live'.
  • Settings > Outputs > Listen > Pre-fader Listen - this will set the 'Listen' button (the one with the ear) to preview the source regardless of fader position. This allows you to check a source without putting the fader up.
  • Settings > Outputs > Routing - this setting is per output and allows you to select what is routed to that output. The options are:
    • Main Mix - All active sources.
    • MixMinus (only on USB and Bluetooh output) - This sends a mix of everything except itself. Typically this is used with telephone sources or audio codecs.
    • Custom - Allows you to select which sources will be routed to the output.

You should set any outputs going to a telephone / VoIP or audio Codec to be Mix Minus. You can also use this to route just your voice to the USB channel you are using for recording Voice Tracks in the Segue Editor

Other options such as audio processing can be set to your preference.

Sources & Faders

The ideal aim is to have four Myriad fader channels, one per Media Player in the default configuration. The Rodecaster Pro2 includes a total of three USB inputs/output meaning you also have to use a physical input for the fourth Media Player. This could be from the built in sound device on your PC or any other audio device. We recommend the following configuration:

  • Fader 1 - Source: Mic Input 1 - Presenter Mic
  • Fader 2 - Source: Mic Input 2 - Guest Mic
  • Fader 3 - Source: Main Rodcaster USB (USB1) - Myriad Player 1
  • Fader 4 - Source: Chat Rodcaster USB (Chat USB1) - Myriad Player 2
  • Fader 3 - Source: Secondary Rodcaster USB (USB2) - Myriad Player 3
  • Fader 3 - Source: Mic Inputs 3 & 4 (combined as stereo source) - Myriad Player 4

That will use all of the physical faders but the there are also 3 x virtual faders that can be used for other sources such as Bluletooth and Soundpads.

Feel free to experiment with options to get the configuration that suits your station best. Once you have it setup, don't forget to take a backup of your 'Show' onto a SD card so you can easily restore the settings should anyone accidentally change the configuration.

Download Starter Configuration

You can download the configuration file below to configure your Rodecaster Pro2 to the configuration above.

Download the Myriad.zip file and extract it to the following folder location on your Rodecasters SD card (change the drive letter as required).

F:\RODECaster\shows

So it should look like this.

This configuration file is a good starting point but you should check all the settings to ensure it is setup the way you want.
