How Media Ranges Work on the Myriad Media Wall

Modified on Fri, 11 Apr at 10:05 AM

To keep your audio content organized and easy to manage, Myriad uses Media Ranges on the Media Wall. These ranges help define the type of content, how it's normalized, and how it's displayed.

Media IDs and Ranges

All audio content in Myriad is stored on the Media Wall. Each media item is assigned a unique Media ID, starting at 1 and continuing up to the maximum configured for your system (which can be in the tens or hundreds of thousands).

To streamline navigation and management, the Media Wall is divided into Media Ranges. Each range defines:

  • A default media type (e.g., song, advert, jingle)

  • A normalization method and target level

  • Visual presentation settings like background and foreground colors

Navigating by Media Range

Using Jump Buttons, you can quickly move between content types:

  • Clicking Songs might jump to Media ID 10,000

  • Clicking Adverts might jump to Media ID 90,000

These jumps are based on how the media ranges are defined in your system.

⚙️ Setting Up Media Ranges

To define or edit media ranges:

  1. Go to SettingsDatabase Settings

  2. Select the Media Ranges tab

From here, you can:

  • Set different Media ID ranges

  • Assign a default item type (e.g., Song, Advert, etc.)

  • Choose whether media in this range should be marked as Sweeper-friendly

  • Set default background and foreground colors

  • Configure Normalization using either:

    • Peak or

    • RMS methods

  • Set a Target Gain (dB) for audio leveling

  • Optionally define a Recycle Override Range, which controls how long deleted items remain in the recycle bin

➕ Adding a New Media Range

To add a new range:

  1. Click Add Range

  2. Define:

    • The Range Name

    • The Media ID range (e.g., 80000–80999)

    • The Item Type

    • Display colors

    • Sweeper settings

    • Normalization method and target level

  3. Click OK to save the new range

Smart Auto-Classification

Once a media range is defined:

  • Any new media added within that range will automatically inherit its settings
(e.g., media added above ID 80,000 will be treated as an Advert if that's how the range is defined).

This makes importing and categorizing new content faster and more accurate.

✅ Summary

Media Ranges allow you to control how content is classified, displayed, and normalized in Myriad. Whether you're managing songs, adverts, or jingles, these settings help you stay organized and efficient.
