Having a solid grasp of media item types and how they’re displayed on the Media Wall is essential for making the most out of Myriad Playout. This article breaks down the different types of media items and explains the visual indicators and metadata you’ll see on screen.
Top-Level Media Item Types
There are six main types of media items in Myriad, each with a unique function and icon:
1. Audio Media Item
Icon:
This is a standard audio file.
Plays as a single, standalone item.
2. List Media Item
Icon:
Contains a sequence of media items.
All items in the list will play in order as if they were a single track.
3. Shuffle Media Item
Icon:
Similar to a list, but only one random item from the group is played each time.
4. Rotating Media Item
Icon:
Plays one item at a time, rotating through the list in order with each play.
5. Command Media Item
Icon:
Used to send commands to external devices or software.
Can trigger macros, automation tasks, or interface with external systems.
6. Stream Media Item
Icon:
Used to play an external stream (e.g., a live internet feed).
Acts like a standard audio file when dropped into a player.
What You See on a Media Tile
Each media item tile on the Media Wall contains key information:
Media Type Designation
Icons or labels indicate whether the item is a:
Song
Link
Sweeper
News item
Advert
Voice link
Basic media item
Title and Artist
Songs display both title and artist
For non-song items, you’ll see a description
Categories
Shows primary and secondary category
May also display the year of release, if set
Intro Time
For songs, this indicates how long a presenter or sweeper can talk over the intro
Useful for live shows and automation
Media ID
A unique ID assigned to each media item
Used for direct navigation or reference
Duration
Total playback time of the media item
May also show how the item ends:
E = End
F = Fade
Hook Indicator
If a song has a hook set, a small hook icon will appear
Color Bar (Category or Type)
The colored bar on the left indicates the item's:
Category color
Or Item type color (depending on settings)
You can also choose:
No color
Full tile coloring based on type or category
Audio Presence Icon
A small icon confirms that audio is attached to the item
