Understanding Media Item Types, Endings, and Sweepers in Myriad Playout 6

Modified on Fri, 11 Apr at 10:26 AM

In Myriad Playout 6, each media item includes key classifications that affect how it behaves during playout. These include the item type, ending type, and whether it’s set to function as a sweeper. Here's how to identify, view, and update those settings.

Media Item Type

Each media item on the Media Wall displays a small icon that indicates its type. Common types include:

  • Song

  • Jingle

  • Advert

  • Sweeper

  • News

These icons help you quickly identify the function of an item at a glance.

✏️ Editing the Media Item Type

To change the item type:

  1. Select the media item

  2. Click Edit from the toolbar ribbon
    or right-click and choose Edit

  3. Use the Item Type dropdown menu to select the appropriate type

This ensures the item behaves as expected in logs, scheduling, and playout automation.

⏱ Media Ending Types

Displayed to the right of the duration on each media tile, the ending type tells Myriad how the item will finish. The options are:

  • FFade

  • EEnd (hard stop)

  • SFSlow Fade

  • SSustain (linger under next audio)

To change the ending type:

  1. Open the item in the Edit Window

  2. Choose the appropriate ending type from the dropdown

This setting affects transitions in live and automated playout.

Setting an Item to Play as a Sweeper

Sweepers are typically short voiceovers or jingles that play over the intro of a song. Myriad uses timing information to determine if the sweeper can fit within the next song's intro.

To set an item as a sweeper:

  1. Select the item you wish to change

  2. Click Edit

  3. Check the "Play as Sweeper" box

Once set:

  • The system will automatically schedule the sweeper to play embedded into the intro of the next track

  • For example: if a sweeper is 5 seconds long and the next song’s intro is 17 seconds, it will be perfectly layered for a smooth transition

? You’ll see sweepers clearly marked in the log view, with their positioning relative to the following song’s intro displayed visually.

✅ Summary

By setting the correct media item type, ending behavior, and sweeper designation, you give Myriad the information it needs to deliver smooth and professional playout.

  • Use icons and dropdowns to classify items properly

  • Adjust ending types for clean transitions

  • Enable sweepers to layer voiceovers during song intros
