Setting Up Adverts for Scheduling in Myriad Playout 6

Modified on Fri, 11 Apr at 2:02 PM

While setting up songs and links for scheduling in Myriad is relatively simple, adverts require a bit more configuration to ensure they are scheduled correctly — especially when it comes to frequency, timing, and delivery guarantees.

This article walks through how to use the Adverts Tab to configure an advert for accurate scheduling with Myriad Playout & Schedule.

? Basic Advert Setup

To begin:

  1. Select the advert on the Media Wall

  2. Click Edit

  3. Ensure the Item Type is set to Advert

  4. Go to the Categorization tab and:

    • Set the Primary Category

    • (Optional) Apply Collision Tags to avoid conflicts with similar advertisers
(see: “Using Collision Tags” article for more info)

? Requested Plays Grid

Switch to the Adverts tab. This is where you define when and how often the advert should be scheduled.

  • The grid represents every hour of the week (7 days × 24 hours)

  • Each cell can contain:

    • A number: specific number of plays in that hour (e.g., 1)

    • A letter: represents a band (e.g., A, B, C, D) for grouped scheduling windows

Example:

  • 1 at Mon 01:00 → Schedules once that hour

  • A from Mon–Sun 07:00 to 10:59 → Uses Band A rules for number of plays in this band.

To edit the grid:

  • Click and drag to highlight the cells

  • Enter a number or letter to assign scheduling

? Configuring Bands A–F

To see what each band means:

  • Look to the right of the grid — you’ll see how many plays per day are requested for each band

  • Example:

    • Band A = 3 plays between 07:00–10:59

    • Band B = 1 play between 16:00–17:59

Bands are useful for setting broad delivery goals without locking an ad to specific hourly slots.

? Saving & Loading Presets

You can save your play schedule setup as a preset for future reuse:

  1. Click Save Preset

  2. Name your preset and confirm

To apply a saved preset:

  1. Select it from the list

  2. Click Load Preset

? Run Dates

In the Adverts tab, you’ll also find Run Date controls, which are essential for adverts:

  • Start Date/Time: First date the advert is valid for scheduling

  • End Date/Time: Final date it will be used

  • Outside of this date range, the advert will not appear in logs or be scheduled

This ensures only active, paid adverts are broadcast.

? Position In Break

This option allows you to set the preferred position for this advert in any break it is placed in.

Example:

  • Anywhere in break

  • First in break

  • Last in break

? Using Tail Media Items

You can link a Tail Media Item to play at the end of the same ad break as the main advert. Only enabled if advert is set to be First in break.

Example:

  • Main Advert: Media ID 200

  • Tail: Media ID 201

If enabled:

  • The main ad plays first in the break

  • The tail ad plays last

  • Only one tail per break is supported

Useful for premium ad spots with wraparound branding or promotional follow-ups.

⚠️ Additional Advert Settings
Allows you to set additional guidelines for advert scheduling.

  • Allow duplicate or same advertiser in break:
Tick this if you're okay with:

    • The same advert appearing twice in a break

    • Different adverts from the same advertiser playing back-to-back

  • Remove from scheduling:
Temporarily exclude this advert from scheduling while retaining all metadata
