Using Stream Media Items in Myriad Playout 6

Modified on Fri, 11 Apr at 2:46 PM

Stream media items in Myriad Playout 6 behave just like any other audio-based media item on the Media Wall, but instead of playing local or network-based audio, they stream content live from a web URL.

This feature is perfect for:

  • Relaying live broadcasts

  • Playing external content feeds (e.g., syndicated programming)

  • Streaming from remote presenters

▶️ Creating a Stream Media Item

To create a new stream media item:

  1. Select an empty media item on the Media Wall

  2. Click Edit

  3. Choose New Audio Stream
This will enable the Stream Setup window.

  4. In the setup window:

    • Paste the Stream URL. You can also use the User Stream URL which is a stream location associated with a specific User.

    • Set a Maximum Duration (e.g., 5 minutes)

    • Add a Title and optional description.

  5. Click Save

? The maximum duration tells Myriad how long to treat the stream as an active item in the log or player (it behaves like a standard media item with a countdown and progress bar).

? How Stream Media Items Work in Playback

  • When loaded into a Player, Myriad will connect to the stream, mute the output during connection, and begin playback once the Play button is pressed (or the Extro of the previous item in the Log).

  • The duration counts down, and a progress bar displays — just like with songs or links

  • Stream items can be:

    • Scheduled in the log

    • Added to favorites

    • Dragged into players manually

? Linking a Stream URL to a User

Instead of manually entering the same stream URL into multiple items, you can associate a stream with a user profile:

To set this up:

  1. Go to SecurityUser Management

  2. Select the desired user

  3. In the Contact Details tab, enter the Stream URL

  4. Click Save

Creating a Stream Media Item linked to a user:

  1. Choose an empty media item and click Edit

  2. Select New Audio Stream

  3. Instead of pasting a URL, select "Use Myriad User’s Stream"

  4. Choose the user from the dropdown

  5. Add a Title and Save

? If the stream URL ever changes, you only need to update it in User Management — any media items referencing that user’s stream will update automatically. This is perfect for dynamic or rotating live content.

✅ Summary

Stream media items in Myriad Playout 6 allow you to:

  • Treat live web streams like any standard media item

  • Control playback with countdown timers and progress bars

  • Use scheduled or manual playout options

  • Manage updates more easily with user-linked streams

This is a flexible solution for stations incorporating live feeds or remote contributors into their schedule.
