Creating and Using List Media Items in Myriad Playout 6

Modified on Fri, 11 Apr at 3:06 PM

List media items allow you to combine multiple media items into a single, sequenced block of content that plays seamlessly in a media player. They’re especially useful when you want to reuse a fixed sequence while updating just one or two elements regularly — such as in weather, news, or feature segments.

? What Is a List Media Item?

A List Media Item is a compiled sequence of individual media items (e.g., intro, bed, voice report, and out-stab) that plays as one unified item when added to a player or log.

Use cases include:

  • Daily weather reports

  • News breaks

  • Promos with dynamic voiceovers

  • Recurring features with changing inserts

? Example: Dynamic Weather Report

Let’s say you want to create a weather segment that includes:

  1. Weather Intro Jingle
  2. Weather Bed
  3. Daily Recorded Weather Report
  4. Out Sponsor Tag

Some of these elements will always be the same (Intro Jingle, Bed) but some will change regularly (Recorded Weather, Sponsor Tag).

You can build a list media item that includes all these elements, allowing you to simply update the weather report or Sponsor Tag media items daily without changing the list itself.

? How to Create a List Media Item

  1. Select an empty media item on the Media Wall

  2. Click Edit on the Home Tab.

  3. Choose New Media List

  4. Click the Add Items button to launch the media browser

  5. Select the media items in the desired sequence:

    • Weather Intro

    • Weather Bed

    • Recorded Daily Weather

    • Weather Out Sponsor Tag

Please note that in this simple example, the Weather Bed needs to be 16 seconds in duration with the Extro set at 4 seconds. The Recorded Dialy Weather needs to be 10 seconds and the Sponsor tag needs to be 4 seconds, otherwise the Weather Bed will not cover the duration of the combined Recorded Weather and Sponsor Tags. A more advanced solution can take into account the potential for a variable length Recorded Weather - see Automatically playing a regularly updated Weather or Travel report over a bed in Myriad Playout v5

  6. Give the list item a title

  7. Click Save

? You now have one reusable media item that plays a complete segment.

? Updating the Dynamic Element (e.g., Weather Report)

To update the segment daily:

  1. Record over or edit the media item that holds the daily report

  2. As long as the Media ID remains the same, the list media item will always use the latest version

  3. Ensure the duration stays roughly the same to maintain flow with the bed and outro

This allows you to have a consistent sound each day while only changing one file.

⚙️ Important Tips for Smooth Playback

  • Set the extro point on the bed early so the following item starts over it

  • Keep the report duration consistent

  • Use Auto hooks, timing markers, and categories as needed if you're scheduling the list in logs

? Using List Media Items in the Log

  • Treat the list item just like a normal media item

  • Drag it into the log, a player, or favorites

  • It will play all linked items in sequence with perfect timing

✅ Summary

List Media Items are a powerful feature in Myriad Playout 6 that allow you to:

  • Combine multiple media items into one playable block

  • Easily update key components without recreating the list

  • Use in logs, favorites, or players like any other item

Whether you're building a weather segment or a modular promo, list media items help you stay dynamic and efficient.
