Modified on Fri, 11 Apr at 4:19 PM

Myriad Playout 6 is, at its core, a player system — designed to give you total control over how and when audio is played. Whether you’re in a live environment, working from a scheduled log, or testing content behind the scenes, there are many ways to trigger playback with flexibility and precision.

This article covers all the key ways to play media items in Myriad Playout 6, along with helpful behavior settings like cueing, previewing, and end-type handling.

? Basic Manual Playback

The simplest way to play a media item is to:

  • Drag and drop a media item from the Media Wall into a Player

  • Click Play

? Other Manual Playback Methods

You can also:

  • Right-click on a media item
    → Choose Play or Cue

  • Double-click an item to play it immediately
(Not recommended on-air without cueing first)

  • Use the Play tab on the ribbon:

    • Play

    • Cue

    • Play Hook

    • Queue Hook

    • Preview

? Previewing allows you to safely listen to content without sending it to air.

⭐ Playback from Favorites

If a media item is assigned to a Favorites button, simply click it once to trigger playback:

  • Useful for quick sound effects, jingles, or IDs

  • Common for presenter or live-assist workflows

Favorites can also be triggered via hardware shortcuts or custom hotkeys.

? Playback from the Library or Log

From the Library View, you can:

  • Drag items into a Media Player

  • Add them to the Log

  • Highlight an item and click Play on the ribbon.

  • Drop them onto Favorites

If it's a media item, and you can see it — you can play it.

? Scheduled Playback via Log

When working with the Log (scheduled or manually built shows) in Live Assist Mode:

  • Myriad will automatically cue the next item ~30 seconds before needed

    • This helps ensure smooth segues and zero playback lag

    • This timing is configurable via system settings

Playback Flow and End Types:

Each item in the log has an End Type, indicated by a color-coded symbol:

SymbolTypeBehavior
Green Circle  GOAutomatically segues into the next item
Red Square STOPPlayback stops at end, awaiting manual action

Example Use:

Doing a live voice link between two items in the Log.

Set an item to STOP to pause the log and speak live, trigger a jingle, or interact with Favorites.

When ready, press Go to resume the next item in the log.

Automated segues in live shows.

In live shows, if the presenter doesn't want to talk between two items, they can set the item to GO which will cause Myriad to atomically segue into the next item in the Log.

Fully automated shows.

When in AutoFade mode, all items are set to Go (green circle) to automate all segues.

You will also note some Log Items has a yellow 'plus' symbol.

This indicates that the item is set as a 'sweeper' and Myriad will attempt to embed the item into the Intro of the following item if it has one.

Playback in Action

Whether testing a track, playing it on-air, or building a live show, Myriad gives you responsive, flexible playback with:

  • Manual and automated cueing

  • Instant Favorites triggering
